Finding Books, e-books, Videos, DVDs:
Any of the following keywords may work to explore possible topics:  liberal education, experiential learning, service learning, social action, community action, service, philantropy, work.
You can also do an advanced search and use the terms travel and college.  Sustainability and college also works.
    • "Stacks" are the tall bookshelves downstairs.  All books in the stacks can be checked out for four week.
    • "R" means that you found a reference book.  These are ideal for authoritative introductions and overviews of topics. Reference books cannot be checked out.
    • Electronic books can be viewed online, at all times.  They can be searched easily. Generally, they do not allow printing of large sections.

Finding Journal Articles:

  • Search tips:
    • Try to combine search terms.  For example, searching for articles on work or college will find articles that deal either with work or college. Generally, this type of search gives you a large number of results. Searching for articles on work and college will find fewer articles.  All articles will address both work and college and probably talk about how the two relate to each other.
    • Most databases have international coverage.  If you are interested in materials about the United States, add to your search terms and United States.
Finding Websites
    • Begin your search with Google, using the advanced search option.
    • Be sure to expand the options under Date, usage rights, numeric range and more (at bottom of search screen)
