This course is an introduction to the intaglio printmaking processes of collagraph, drypoint, etching, aquatint, softground, and intaglio-type. Emphasis is on developing technical skills and a portfolio of prints. This course is an introduction to relief printmaking processes. Basic techniques will be learned to produce wood and linoleum relief prints as well as non-traditional relief prints. Letterpress printing will also be introduced, and students may experiment with combining letterpress with relief printed images to produce broadsides, folios, and small booklets. The course serves as an introduction to the methods and materials of illustration, focusing on limited edition artists' book production.
