HIS 251 Appalachian Histories 4cr

This course concentrates on central and southern Appalachia from the point of earliest contact between Native Americans and Europeans to approximately 1970. The course introduces students to major themes in regional history, including cross-cultural interaction, economic strategies, and interplay between insiders and outsiders. Class discussions also highlight the process of "doing" academic history and the relationship of history to folklore.
