Students develop a heightened awareness of their environment through reading, writing, and experiencing the immediate surroundings in the Swannanoa Valley. Students read classic and current nature writing, one of the liveliest genres of nonfiction. Weekly writing assignments culminate in two extensive writing projects that are presented to the class. One may be submitted to an off-campus publication.
