In addition to memorable live performances at the 2009 Commencement and on WNCW-FM, the WWC Chorale & Folk Choir found time in May to record a “Spring 2009” CD. Recorded and produced by White Sound Studio, the CD is an annual project that not only features choral selections, but also highlights the array of talent of individual students in the group.
“The CD was recorded in early May during a regular meeting time over a period of 90 minutes,” said Milton Crotts, chorale and folk choir director “The recording session is a ‘mini concert’ because we don't have the time for second takes. All the students are busy with exam preparation, meetings, etc., so we just get together and record. Because of this arrangement, it has the energy of a live performance.”
The CD features no fewer than 17 diverse selections, ranging from traditional spirituals such as “Travelin’ Shoes” to a Czechoslovakia greeting song titled “Ya Helo.” The finale is the ever-popular “Forever Young,” with text by Bob Dylan and musical setting by Milton Crotts. The CD cover shot, courtesy of WWC archives, is a photo of the Asheville Farm School barn from the early 1900s.
The “Spring 2009” CD is now available for purchase at the Campus Store, in the lower level of Gladfelter Student Center. You also can purchase a copy by calling 828-771-3024 or by sending an e-mail to scoleman@warren-wilson.edu. Parents of the singers will receive a complimentary copy of the CD in the coming weeks.
