For a college enclosed by mountains and settled firmly in its little valley, Warren Wilson still manages to provide students with a view that encompasses the world. While most students went home or on adventures of their own for spring break, others were off to Cuba to experience a different culture firsthand (and to get in a little time at the beach!). Warren Wilson students met with students from Hamilton College to form a Witness for Peace delegation that explored the impact of the US Embargo on the life of ordinary Cubans. They talked with people ranging from Cuban Ministry of Foreign Relations to the Cuban Federation of Women--all the while soaking in the rich music, food, and dance of a foreign land right off the US coast and heavily influenced by US policies. Intense discussion about issues that matter, learning firsthand about world politics, and extending a helping hand wherever possible--all part of spring break at Warren Wilson.
