Presidential Search Committee updateAugust 31, 2005
The Presidential Search Committee (PSC) held its organizational meeting on Thursday, August 25. Academic Search Consultation Service, the oldest and largest search firm dedicated solely to university and college presidents and senior administrators, has been retained by the Board of Trustees to assist the PSC in identifying candidates in its search for Dr. Orr’s successor.
Dr. Herman Collier, a senior consultant at Academic Search, spent three days on campus last week interviewing individual members of the faculty, staff, administration and student body as well as local area trustees, alumni, Board of Visitors members and volunteers. He also conducted several open forums. Using the information gathered in these interviews, the PSC will create an institutional profile and position description that will be used in conducting the national search. The PSC will meet periodically throughout the coming months as the search intensifies. It is anticipated that the search process will be completed no later than April, 2006. Invitations to submit nominees for the position will begin in mid-September when the job is advertised in the Chronicle of Higher Education and a written and oral solicitation of prospects is begun.
The PSC has indicated that it will keep the WWC community advised as to the progress of the search as it moves forward, but that specific details concerning the nominees and other confidential matters must, of necessity, remain confidential in order to preserve the integrity of the search.
