On-Campus Resources

Freestore

Free Store
The Recycling Crew sorts through all our trash looking for good stuff that can be reused. Also, anyone in the community can bring their unwanted clothes, books, appliances, furniture, and other odds and ends to the recycling shed (by the garden). They get put in the free store for anyone to take; all you have to do is write down what you take and it’s yours. This is a great place to go for new clothes, dishes, room decorations, and anything else you can imagine. Go to http://www.warren-wilson.edu/~recycle/freestore.shtml for more free store excitement!

Bookstore

Bookstore
You can find notebooks made out of old book covers and recycled paper in the college bookstore for only $2. Also check out the bags made of old clothes and created by the recycling crew. Natural shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, tampons, and pads are all available. The herb crew also sells salves, tea, and balms in the bookstore that are made from medicinal plants in the Warren Wilson garden.

Firewood

Firewood
The Natural Resources Crew provides firewood for any staff or faculty member. You can pick up a 12’x4’x18” load for free. If you need more wood than this, the crew sells firewood for about $100/cord. The wood is cut sustainably from the Warren Wilson College forest. Call x2068 for more details.

Mushrooms

Shiitake Mushrooms
The Natural Resources Crew sells the shiitake and oyster mushrooms they cultivate in the forest behind Dogwood. They are available for $8/lb whenever there is a harvest in spring and fall. NRC usually sells them by walking around campus or at the garden market if it corresponds with a harvest.

Community Bike Shop
The bike shop helps provide alternative transportation to students, staff, and faculty. The shop can replace rusty parts, tune up your bike, fix handle bars, forks, brakes, wheels, and more. The bike shop takes donations and twice a year community members can apply to get a bike from the shop. Those who will use the bikes for commuting to work and/or school get top priority. They also have an account with a wholesale company to get cheap parts (such as tires, cables, brake pads, chains, and tubes) that you can buy from the shop to fix your bike.

Garden Market

Garden Market
There are 2 ways to buy delicious produce from the garden. One market is located outside of Gladfelter on Friday from 11-1; there is also a self-serve market at the Garden on Tuesdays from 11-4. Both take place June through November. The garden sells greens, tomatoes, peppers, and other organic veggies.

Ecodorm Permaculture
There are lots of edible vegetables, fruits and herbs in front of the Ecodorm. The permaculture landscape is maintained by the landscaping crew and residents of the dorm. You can go harvest some fresh food for yourself anytime.

The Print Shop
The Warren Wilson print shop can provide most of your printing needs, including color copying, colored paper, large size paper, tree-free or recycled paper, they always use soy-based inks which are better for the environment, and are local which means you save gas! They don’t have what you need? See p.10 for more local businesses.

Wellness
The crew sells tinctures from Red Moon Herbs, offers numerous classes in yoga, pilates, belly dancing, reiki, massage, smoking cessation programs, nutrition information, and more. Many of these offerings are free to the Warren Wilson community. Go to www.warren-wilson.edu/~wellness for more information.

It passes by Ingles grocery store, Eckerd, the mall (with a movie theater, craft store, office stores, and bookstore within walking distance), a variety of restaurants, downtown shopping and entertainment areas on the half hour. The bus currently runs from 4:00pm-9:00pm on Monday through Thursday, 4:00pm-1:00am on Friday, and 1:00pm-1:00am on Saturday. The bus does not run on Sunday. Hitchin’ Post
There’s a new bench across from the chapel where you can wait for a ride. Anyone driving by knows that you’re waiting to go to the grocery store, downtown, etc. and can pick you up! Don’t feel comfortable hitching? Look for the student parking sticker so you know it’s a Wilson student.
