Timeline of Environmental Commitments
As Approved by Shared Governance or Presidential Directive
Each of the following initiatives has been approved through the shared governance process or instituted as a Presidential directive.
- 1980: Forest Management Plan approved
- 1986: Solid Waste Management Plan approved
- 1987: Hazardous Materials Plan approved
- 1990: Approved change in mission statement invites to its educational community individuals who are dedicated to stewardship of the natural environment
- 1990: Pattern language adopted by WWC as conceptual tool to develop underlying
principles for practical decision-making
- 1992: Long Range Facilities Plan approved
- 1994: Long Range Land Use Committee established and directed to develop Environmental Pattern Languages all aspects of campus operations
- 1996: Long Range Land Use Plan approved
- 1997: Process Steering Group created for an Environmental Campus (PSGEC)
- 1997: Environmental Commitment Statement approved
- 1997: Campus Parking Policy approved
- 1998: WWC Statement of Environmental Goals approved
- 1999: Landscape Pattern Language approved
- 2000: Native Biodiversity, Wildlife and Fisheries Pattern Language approved
- 2000: Freshman Vehicle Policy approved
- 2000: PSGEC transitioned to the Campus Greening Committee
- 2000: WWC becomes a signatory of the Talloires Declaration
- 2001: Purchasing Pattern Language approved
- 2002: WWC will adopt an environmental monitoring system approved as addition to 1997
Environmental Commitment Statement
- 2003: Approved change in WWC mission statement adding environmental responsibility and experiential opportunities for international and cross-cultural understanding
- 2003: WWC strategic goals approved
- 2005: Long Range Land Use Planning Committee reconfigured
- 2006: Campus Greening Committee retired
