Lyn O’Hare, Director of Academic Support Services, Ext. 3012
Lower Dodge House
Academic counseling is designed to assist students in developing and improving study skills and habits that will enhance their academic success. The Director of Academic Support Services works individually with students to define areas of need and to develop a plan for the improvement of academic performance.
Several departments, including languages, mathematics, biology, and chemistry provide peer tutoring services on an ongoing basis. Students having difficulty in a course in which ongoing tutoring is not available should first speak with the instructor to request help. If peer tutoring is in order, contact the Director of Academic Support Services, who can arrange for peer tutoring (on an “as available” basis).
In addition to group meetings in which we examine the complexities of the learning process, each student works individually to define and address areas of need or interest that will enhance the college academic experience. Topics covered might include goal setting and prioritizing; time management; focus strategies; memory and studying; reading and note-taking techniques; preparation for exams and major and career planning. Students are evaluated on a pass/fail basis.
