Steve Curwood

Steve Curwood, host and executive producer of "Living on Earth" on public radio, will deliver the main address at the 2008 Warren Wilson College Commencement on May 17, President Sandy Pfeiffer has announced. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on Sunderland Lawn.

Curwood created the pilot for the weekly environmental news program, distributed by Public Radio International, in 1990. The show has aired regularly since April 1991.

"Living on Earth" (www.loe.org) currently is broadcast on about 300 public radio stations, reaching about 80 percent of the United States. The program's website notes that the show includes "news, features, interviews and commentary on a broad range of ecological issues."

Curwood has been a print and broadcast journalist for more than 30 years. He shared the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service as part of the education team of The Boston Globe. His relationship with public radio dates to 1979, when he began as a reporter and host for "Weekend All Things Considered."

A resident of New Hampshire, Curwood lectures in environmental science and policy at Harvard University, his alma mater. He also is president of the World Media Foundation Inc.
