If you have not already signed up for the blood drive on Tues., Feb. 19, 1-6 p.m., in Canon Lounge, it’s not too late. The New Southern Ramblers will be performing as part of the Appalachian Music Concert Series on Wed., Feb. 6, 7-8 p.m. at Sage Cafe. The New Southern Ramblers is an old-time Appalachian stringband from Western North Carolina. For over twenty years, they accompanied legendary Tennessee fiddler Ralph Blizard at concerts, festivals, and workshops throughout United States. With driving southern fiddle music, traditional vocals, and flatfoot dancing, they have entertained audiences and dancers from Florida to Alaska and New England to California. Past performances include the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Merlefest, and the Swannanoa Gathering. The band consists of John Herrmann (fiddle), Gordy Hinners (banjo), Phil Jamison (guitar), and Meredith McIntosh (bass).

Konrad Zoll’s “Visual Notes from the Appalachian Trail” will be exhibited Feb. 8 to March 26 at the Elizabeth Holden Gallery of Warren Wilson College. An opening reception, including an artist’s talk, is Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Regular gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Monday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m., Zabriskie Hall, Cathedral of All Souls, Asheville. The lecture, free and open to the public, is an offering of the Kay Falk Literary Project. Peter Turchi, director of the MFA for writers program at WWC, is the author of Maps of the Imagination: The Writer as Cartographer; Suburban Journals: The Sketchbooks, Drawings, and Prints of Charles Ritchie, in collaboration with the artist; a novel, The Girls Next Door; a collection of stories, Magician; and The Pirate Prince, co-written with Cape Cod treasure hunter Barry Clifford. He has also co-edited, with Andrea Barrett, The Story Behind the Story: 26 Stories by Contemporary Writers and How They Work and, with Charles Baxter, Bringing the Devil to His Knees: The Craft of Fiction and the Writing Life. Fairtrade Coffee is organic, shade-grown coffee produced by farmer cooperatives in many developing nations of the world and sold in different flavors and roasts. The Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church participates in this project four times a year. Order forms and information are available in the narthex of the chapel on Sunday mornings from 10-11 a.m. or in Jon Hettrick's office in the Orr Cottage. Orders will be taken until Feb. 10.
