BRIAN AMMONS, DIRECTOR OF SPIRITUAL LIFE
Brian joined Warren Wilson in the summer of 2012, coming to Warren Wilson from Duke University where he served on the Education faculty. He graduated from NC State University in 1995 with a degree in Middle Grades Education and a minor in English, and went on to earn a Master Education in Special Education while he was teaching in Iredell County and Chapel Hill Carrborro Schools. Brian received a Masters of Divninty from Wake Forest University in 2003. Upon completion, he was ordained and served as Minister with Youth and Young Adults at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. Brian completed his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Cultural Studies with a certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies at UNC-Greensboro in 2010. Brian has taught courses in gender studies, practical theology, and education at UNCG, Wake Forest, and Duke, and he writes and speaks widely about the intersction of spirituality, sexuality, and justice. Brian was born and raised in North Carolina, and is grateful to return to his ancestral roots in Appalachia.
STEVE RUNHOLT, Warren Wilson College Presbyterian Church Pastor
A native of western South Dakota, Steve grew up in a land where the deer and the antelope play, and the buffalo still roam. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1984 with a degree in psychology, and then attended Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. Following Oxford, Steve served as a Hunger Corp volunteer in Kenya for two years. He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 2000 from Princeton Theological Seminary, where he won the the Presbyterian Leadership Award and the Mary Long Grier-Hugh Davies Prize for Preaching. Steve is married to Robyn Castellani, and they serve as staff to Annie, an exuberant standard poodle. Apart fromo Warren Wilson College s his family and his ministry at Warren Wilson, Steve’s passions include whitewater kayaking and riding his road and mountain bikes. He has served as the pastor of the Warren Wilson Presbytarian Church since July 2005, and previously served as the Associate Pastor of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Asheville and as a Lilly Resident in Parish Ministry at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
