Major: Theatre/English
Hometown: Yellow Springs, Ohio
Crew: Building Services
Building services may not top the list for ideal crew assignments, but getting to work on this crew is exactly the reason
Glenn extended his summer contract to include two more weeks of work. "Summer is a tough time; the work load is much heavier
and fast paced - there's a lot of heavy lifting," he says.
Glenn credits his crew bosses for providing consistent and positive motivation to a crew whose chief duties include residence
hall cleaning, event set-up and restocking maintenance supplies. "It's not always peaches and cream, but there are enough
differences in our day-to-day work that I don't get bored," the Yellow Springs, Ohio native says. "I get to go to different
places around campus and I'm not standing still."
Sometimes the work of building services can seem to be overlooked, but Glenn says "it's a quiet appreciation. When we do our job,
people are happy to know we have cleaned the areas and set-up their events, and then they aren't worried about those details.
If we didn't do our job well, no one would be happy."
What would Glenn say to prospective Warren Wilson students about the Work Program? "Stay positive. Surround yourself with positive
people. If you hang around people who are cynical, you'll get dragged down too."
Glenn has a final year ahead of him at Warren Wilson and will be working full time on the Theatre Crew. There he is able to
work in all areas of the theatre - from marketing to set design. He'll also perform in a one-man, one-act show this spring,
Thom Pain (based on nothing) by Will Eno. After graduation, he hopes to move to a major city and continue his work as a thespian.
