De – Icing
How We Do It: To remove ice from the roads and pathways of our core campus the landscaping crew uses a natural grain-based de-icer called Bare Ground.
Why We Do It: Bare Ground De-Icer is a naturally derived, environmentally friendly de-icer that is completely biodegradable. In this way it helps us to keep with the environmental vision of the college while providing for the safety of our community members
Where to Get It:
Bare Ground De-Icer is one of several options regarding environmentally friendly de-icing. It is commercially available from a number of retailers. Warren Wilson College obtains its de-icer direct from the manufacturer, which we find to be the most cost effective method.
