The Warren Wilson College EcoDorm is as much a model of sustainability as any other sector on campus. Led by student demand, the plans for EcoDorm were crafted by a committee focused on meeting the priorities of energy efficiency, water conservation, healthy indoor air quality, and the use of local and highly recyclable materials. The results of these efforts are detailed below:
Energy Efficiency
- Structural Insulated Panels
- Passive Solar Radiation
- Energy Star-Rated Appliances
- Radiant Floor Heating
- Over awnings (to power the dorm during the day
- Behind the dorm (to heat water)
- Coupled with high efficiency boiler

Water Conservation
- Water collection via tanker car

Healthy Indoor Air Quality
- Low VOC paints, sealers, and framing
- Heat recovery ventilators
- Energy efficient ceiling fans in every room
Use of Local and Recyclable Materials
- Harvesting Lumber
- Cabinetry

Social Sustainability
