Sustainability is nothing new to the art and science of farming. Age-old techniques rely on sunshine and water resources to produce high-quality protein. In a farming system, sustainability is necessary to ensure the ability to rely on an area as a food source into the future. Unfortunately, sustainability is not a common consideration in the modern industrial agriculture system. It is, however, a growing movement, led largely by consumers and producers concerned with a local and sustainable food system. The award-winning Warren Wilson College Farm is comprised of 275 acres and includes pasture-raised beef, pork, poultry and on-site feed production:
