Most of the employee benefits (health insurance, dental insurance, retirement annuity, etc.) are pre-paid, which means that the deduction taken on the 15th of the month pays for the following month's coverage. For instance, deductions taken on the 4/15 pay date pay for the 5/1-5/31 premiums.
