Health Insurance
Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, all full-time students will be required to provide proof of health insurance coverage.  Those who cannot show proof of health insurance coverage will be enrolled in and billed for a basic health insurance plan that is compliant with the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act."

North Carolina Sales Tax
Effective January 1, 2014, the State of North Carolina is imposing sales tax on meals sold to students at colleges and universities located in the state.  In the past, G.S. 105-164.13(27) provided an exemption from sales tax for "prepared food and food served to students in dining rooms regularly operated by state or private educational institutions or student organizations thereof."  This exemption was repealed; as a result, food sold to students in Gladfelter Dining Hall, Owl's Nest, and Sage Cafe' is now subject to sales tax.  The sales price of student meal plans for the spring 2014 semester will be adjusted by $65 for the basic meal plans and $67 for the premiums plans to accommodate sales taxes due.  These amounts are being added to student accounts this month.  The North Carolina Department of Revenue will publish regulations that will increase the tax paid for the fall and subsequent semesters.  We will provide details when they become available.
