Held every year on the first full weekend in October, this event is a celebratory time for all Warren Wilson College community members, but especially for alums, parents and friends of the College. The event starts off Friday morning with the Annual Bannerman Society Golf Tournament, a fund raiser for a student scholarship fund. After lunch and siesta time, the event continues with a pork and vegetarian tofu barbeque on the fields of the farm, with live bluegrass music serenading the crowds. Hay rides, dancing and singing for all ages continues until dusk when members of the soccer team race out to light the bonfire (weather and no burn bans permitting).
On Saturday, the day begins with a special Alumni Association meeting in Kittredge followed by the alumni awards ceremony where people come together to honor those who have given of their time to be exemplary alumni and community members. It is a great time to learn about the ways in which those who have attended Warren Wilson haved carried the important values gained during their college years live on. A special luncheon ensues in Canon lounge for alums to gather by class and the afternoon is filled with opportunities to network with classmates and community members at the festival on the field and the soccer games. Then, the evening offers alums a chance to eat with their classmates or mingle with those from ther classes. All Warren Wilson community members and friends can sign up for the dinner under the tent on Sunderland lawn. Special reunion dinners are sponsored and organized by specific classes. On Sunday, participants can attend Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church service at 11 a.m. followed by a community potluck (no need to to bring a dish). The motto of this event is, "Learn Here, Play Here, Relax Here, Stay Here!" The Weekend @ WWC started out as a way alums could come back during the summer and give them a chance to visit and learn in a relaxed way (after all, we are a college!) Participants can stay right on campus because it's during the summer and a few of the residence halls are vacant. Initially, it was our esteemed alumni who offered to volunteer their time to teach some courses. Now, there are faculty and staff as well who help teach the over 30 classes offered. It is an event for the whole family and continues to grow in popularity. It offers two full days of classes with options for those of all ages. For a glance at what has been offered in the past, check out a pdf of the brochure or visit the weekend page for this year's lineup (it is updated annually). A brochure is also sent out to all alumni in the Spring calling for registration. Unlike Homecoming, there aren't any formal reunion events planned, but participants can certainly arrange get-togethers and there are several group meals included. When registering online, names of other folks who have registered are listed as well, so there's an opportunity to contact other participants and make plans. For further information, contact our alumni office.
