Friday, September 30

Bannerman Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament*, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.   
Have fun shooting a round of golf in support of scholarships!  Registration fee includes breakfast, greens fees, cart and lunch at the Black Mountain Golf Course.  Please arrange your own transportation to the golf course for this event.  Cost:  $60.
                               
WWC Forest Walk**, 10:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00 -2:30 p.m.
Join WWC Sustainable Forestry Professor Dave Ellum on a hike through the Suicide Ridge compartment of the College forest.  Participants will learn about the ecological significance of Suicide Ridge, forest management at WWC, and the role the College forest plays in the College’s teaching mission.  The walk lasts an hour and a half and includes moderately hilly terrain.  Meet in front of the Chapel and be sure to bring water, sturdy shoes and lots of questions.  Maximum participants: 12

Alumni River Raft Trip*, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Take a four-mile guided raft trip down the French Broad River.  This trip is open to children age nine and older if accompanied by an adult.  Cost ($12) includes transportation and a bag lunch.  Trip departs from the front of Gladfelter.  Maximum participants: 10  

Garden Market, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Meander through the Garden Market in front of Gladfelter and see freshly harvested food from our Garden.  You can purchase garden items and take a taste of Warren Wilson home with you! 

Green Walkabout©, 1:00-3:00 p.m.

The Green Walkabout inspires and informs.  Take a walking tour of campus and learn about greening principles, waste reduction practices, native landscaping, sustainable forestry and agriculture, and more.

MFA Reading, 2:00 p.m.
Warren Wilson College's highly-regarded Master of Fine Arts Program for Writers celebrated its 35th anniversary this summer. The nation's first low-residency MFA program, it is also widely considered the finest; Poets & Writers magazine has just ranked it as #1 for the fourth year in a row.  We invite you to explore the writing side of Warren Wilson through this reading of poetry from the program's director, Debra Allbery, and fiction from alumna and current Beebe Fellow, Rachel Howard.

Service Opportunity:  Black Mountain Community Garden**, 2:30-4:45 p.m.

Serve with fellow alumni and members of the Service Learning Crew at the Black Mountain Community Garden.  This community garden provides a space for families of the Swannanoa Valley to grow their own produce, supplies fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income families through local agencies, and teaches children and adults the life-long skills of growing food and sharing with your neighbor.  Come play in soil, harvest the summer bounty and get crops planted for the winter.  Please preregister for this event. Maximum participants: 12

Service of Remembrance, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Join us as we remember those who have gone before us in Warren Wilson College history.  Gather outside the Chapel at 2:45 p.m. if you would like to ride the shuttle to the service or meet at the cemetery at 3:00 p.m.

As part of the Global Studies Colloquium Series, Drew Stephens ’88, director of The GIS Institute, will present a lecture entitled Understanding our Global Ocean Environment: Geospatial Applications for Coastal and Marine Research and Planning

Natural Science Alumni Lecture, 4:00 p.m.
This lecture series brings back WWC alumni who are working in science related fields to talk about their career path from their undergraduate days to their current work. Dr. Megan Davies ’84 will be the 2011 guest lecturer. Dr. Davies, who worked on the plumbing crew during her time at WWC and graduated with a degree in English, currently serves as the State Epidemiologist for the North Carolina Division of Public Health.

Rosh Hashanah Shabbat Dinner for Students, Families, and Alumni*, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The "Kehila" (Jewish Student Association/WWC Hillel) is hosting a vegetarian/vegan friendly Shabbat dinner to celebrate the new year and coincide with the BBQ dinner, leaving plenty of time for those who want to venture down to the farm for square dancing and the bonfire. This event is open to all students, their families, and alumni. We will have food available but we welcome you to bring a FAVORITE FAMILY RECIPE if you’d like. Light some candles, sing some Shabbat songs, and hang out with new and old friends.  Bring an instrument if you like for some jamming. . .Shabbat Shalom! Please register so we can have food for all. (Cost: Adults, $10; Children 7-12, $5; Students and Children under 6, Free)

WWC Chorale Performance, BBQ Dinner and Square Dancing*, 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Head down to the Farm for our traditional feast of freshly smoked pulled pork or barbecued tofu.  The WWC Chorale kicks off the evening. A rockin’ band, composed of faculty members Phil Jamison, Kevin Kehrberg, Jeff Keith and alumna Rayna Gellert '98 and friend Ben Harvey, will provide lively entertainment and music for dancing.  A bonfire will keep us warm as the sun sets and hayrides are offered too, weather permitting.  It’s an event for the entire campus, so students, staff and faculty are invited to join in the fun.  (Cost: Adults, $12; Children 7-12, $5; Students & Children under 6, Free)

Men's Basketball vs. Alumni, 8:00 p.m.
Come see your first glimpse of the 2011-2012 edition of the Warren Wilson College men's basketball team.  All alumni are invited to attend and participate.  A small alumni reception will be offered in the atrium of DeVries Gymnasium after the game as well.

Theatre Alumni Performance, 9:00 p.m.

Theatre alumni will present an EVENT (something between a Happening and a Real Show). Alumni have been urged to conspire with each other in the creation of short performances based around the idea of "Home".  Somehow, these performances will be assembled into an Extravaganza for the Viewing Pleasure of All Alumni, Students and Families.  Warning: Current students, current and former staff, small children, and animals may be involved! WWC 5K Fun Run*, 8:00 a.m.
Enjoy a peaceful 3.1 mile run or walk around the Warren Wilson campus.  Meet in front of DeVries Gym to register and take your mark.  The course will be marked, and all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.  Registration fees ($5) and all additional donations support the WWC Athletics Fund. 

Class of ’86 Work Project, 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.
Reconnect with your 1986 classmates as you work on campus, just like the old days! Meet at the Garden Cabin at 8:30am. The project will be planting kale with a member of the garden crew.

Awards & Recognition Ceremony at the Annual Association Meeting, 10:00-11:15 a.m.

Join us as we honor our alumni award recipients Ki Sub Joung ’56 and Harry Atkins ’56 for Distinguished Alumni, Evelyn Berry Henderson '48 and Mark Hare ’87 for Distinguished Community Service and Bev Ohler and Ray Stock for Distinguished Service. We will also vote on the new Alumni Association Board members including Julianne Delzer ’94, Erica Engelsman ’03, Cheryl Harper ’69 and John Wykle ’61. Rodney Lytle ’73, Director of Alumni Relations, and Richard Blomgren, V.P. for Advancement, Admission and Marketing, will be our masters of ceremony.  

Kelp Bed Studio Sale, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
After 32 years at Warren Wilson, art professor Dusty Benedict is retiring at the end of the school year. You are welcome to celebrate his next step with him by visiting his studio sale. Paintings, drawings, sketches and watercolors will be available. 182 College View Drive (off campus)

Parade of Classes, 11:15 a.m.

Following the Awards and Recognition Ceremony, meet your classmates outside of Kittredge Theatre to begin a celebratory parade to Gladfelter.  The parade, led by our Award Recipients, will march together by decades. 

Reunion Celebration Luncheon*, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Join your classmates for great food and fellowship in Canon Lounge. Graduates of class years ending in a ’1 or ’6 will be recognized.  Space is limited, and preregistration is required.  Shuttle service will be provided between Canon and the Kittredge parking lot.  Cost: $16. 

Premiere of Warren Wilson History Video, 2:00 p.m.
The inspiring history of Warren Wilson College is told in this documentary by award-winning producers John Disher and Steven Heller. The film explores the origins of Warren Wilson as a 19th-century mission school and details its evolution into a four-year college that has earned a distinct niche in higher education. Narrated by Faye Grant, Bill Pullman and Stephen Collins.

Festival on the Field, Noon-4:30 p.m.

Spend time with your friends and family Saturday afternoon on the soccer field.  You’ll find crafts by students, local and alumni artisans, as well as WWC gear.  Be sure to bring a little extra cash or your checkbook to purchase your favorite items, as well as tasty food. There will be designated tailgating areas. Be sure to stop by the Athletics grill to see your favorite coaches!

Social Work Alumni Reception and Phi Alpha Induction Ceremony, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

The social work department invites all alumni to attend a reception and the induction ceremony into the Phi Alpha honor society at the Orr Cottage patio.
