The Impact of Our Alumni

“It’s occasions like these that remind me of just how amazing my four years at Warren Wilson were, and the countless ways it has impacted my life,” wrote Pat Addabbo, an ’08 graduate, in an email after a gathering hosted by Disabled Sports USA in Washington, D.C.
Since graduating from Warren Wilson with a degree in outdoor leadership and history, Addabbo has worked in Washington as DS/USA’s youth sports mentoring program manager.
DS/USA is a national nonprofit that offers sports rehabilitation programs nationwide to anyone with a permanent disability, and has 99 chapters in 38 states. It serves thousands of people with disabilities through dozens of sports, some of which include skiing, rock climbing, and wheelchair basketball.
Addabbo also manages a youth sports mentoring program and oversees the community inclusion project, which provides training for community organizations so that they may increase recreation activities for disabled youth.
“I constantly refer to skills I learned in WWC courses,” says Addabbo. “Warren Wilson had given me a multitude of skills advantageous for work in a variety of situations.”
Addabbo, who worked several semesters at the WWC auto shop, has been able to put his skills to good use recently by repairing a golf cart to help mobilize a soldier who had been injured overseas.
“Wilson alumni understand that each of us shares a respect for hard work, the environment, and giving back. This is a spirit which no other college seems to have.”
