Algie Sutton grew up in the upstate of South Carolina and came to the Asheville Farm School when he was still a boy. He received a diploma in 1925 and went on to become a successful insurance salesman in Birmingham, Alabama. A huge supporter of the Farm School and later Warren Wilson College, Mr. Sutton received both the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the College before his death in 1999. Algie was a brother of Archie Sutton, after whom a campus dormitory is named. Mr. Sutton and his wife, Elizabeth, created an endowment that grants scholarship aid to deserving students based on merit.
