Dr. Sprinza Weizenblatt came to Asheville from Austria. She was a well known ophthalmologist in Asheville who set up scholarships at many schools. She also created a garden for the blind and founded the Memorial Mission Eye Service. Dr. Weizenblatt passed away in 1987. She set up an endowed scholarship at Warren Wilson in 1984, designating that the earnings "shall be used to provide scholarships and financial aid to students attending, or intending to attend the College." The grants are to be given "based only on demonstrated academic promise and financial need, and without regard to race, religion or ethnic background."
