Today, 6-9-99, we started trowelling the squares 10R160 and 10R170 in order to see where we left off last year.  David taught us about the different colors of the soil and what they mean.  Dark circles indicate postholes.  These postholes form patterns and are useful in identifying structures such as houses and palisades.  We also got all of the black plastic off of 40R200,  which is our deep test unit.  In this square we are digging deeper than normal in order to study the people that were at the site before the Pisgah people.  We also did a little bit of work with the transit, the instrument that is used to check elevations.
