Archaeological Field School
Summer 2001

The 2001 WWC field school is conducting excavations at the Berry site, a 15th/16th-century Native American town in the upper Catawba River Valley near what is now Morganton, North Carolina. This site may represent the town known to Spanish explorers in the mid-1500s as "Joara." Check back here for daily updates of what we are finding and what we are learning about life in this ancient town!
