What is Historical Archaeology?

Under Construction

James Deetz, in "In Small Things Forgotten" defines historical archaeology as, "...the archaeology of the spread of European cultures throughout the world since the fifteenth century, and their impact on and interaction with the cultures of indigenous peoples." (p. 5). Deetz also states that "Material culture may be the most objective source of information we have concerning America's past" (p. 259).
