This series of paintings pays tribute
to the 118 Russian sailors that died when the Russian nuclear
powered submarine KURSK exploded and sank in 350’ of
water in the Barents Sea off the Northern coast of Russia.
My response to this tragedy is not so much a political one
but rather a humanitarian one. My deepest human sympathies
lie with the suffering of the 23 men that survived
the explosion and faced the realization of their ultimate death.
I am also concerned about the families and the suffering
they have endured and continue to endure by their tragic loss.
I try to imagine the reality of being in the situation and I can imagine
no more terrifying place to be on earth.
