Mike moved to Asheville in 1999 with his wife, Meg, from Colorado, where he had been running a whitewater/fly fishing Guide service in the Rocky Mountains. Mike is a Pacific Northwest native, growing up in western Washington State, and playing his youth soccer for the Lakewood Soccer Club. He was named to the SPSL All Conference teams in his Jr and Sr years playing for Lakes High in Tacoma, after which he attended the Evergreen State College, and played for the Geoducks in the mid 80’s.
Since then, he has been player/manager for several adult clubs, and has been a head coach in the Highland Football Club, Asheville’s classic youth soccer organization. He holds a USSF National license, NSCAA state certificate, and continues to enhance his coaching education by attending symposiums and the NSCAA Coaches Convention regularly.
Mike, at 42, led his 0ver 30 team in the Asheville Wizards Football Club to back to back League and Cup titles in 2005 and 2006, including two undefeated seasons in a row. He scored 124 goals for the club from 2001-06. Injury and old age have forced him to hang up his boots after 34 years.
Besides the beautiful game, Mike enjoys sailing, backpacking, mountain biking, reggae and playing his guitar. He has two beautiful daughters, Claire, 7, and Grace, 5, who keep him on his game. He is a Manchester United fanatic.
