Mountain Biking
2008 Spring Update
It’s Race Season

While there is no Collegiate mountain bike racing in the spring, there are plenty of races throughout the Southeast to keep the Wilson riders training hard and racing fast. Team riders David Bishop, James Hendershott, Matt Williams, Alexis Decosimo and others have been racing in Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina chasing glory and USA Cycling points with an eye towards the National Championships this summer in Vermont.
Trying to Give Back

In addition to racing, nearly half of the team showed up two weeks ago to help out the local cycling community by working on the trails in Alexander Park, just outside Asheville. The Park features a newly created five mile loop consisting entirely of sweet single track, and the team worked on improving water drainage in several low spots, as well as building a kiosk at the entrance to the Park. The trail work was followed by a brief ride on the trails, and they are definitely worth checking out if you are around Asheville.
Sometimes We Just Ride

The weather the last two weeks has been spectacular in Asheville, and many members of the team have been out riding campus trails, doing night rides through the farm, exploring the nearby Shope Creek trails, and riding the ever expanding skills course. Really, it’s all about having fun on bikes. In addition David and Matt have been joining coach Art Shuster for Tuesday Night “World Championship” rides in Asheville and have been doing their best to show those leg shaving, color coordinated roadies what’s up.
