Owls Earn 2-1 Overtime Victory at LaGrange
The Warren Wilson men's soccer team improved to 3-3 on the season following a 2-1 overtime victory over LaGrange College. LaGrange opened up the scoring in the 9th minute on a goal by Nic Harris. The game remained 1-0 for most of the game until Kyle Carpenter found Graham Ballard off a corner kick in the 86th minute. In overtime, Alex Babbitt scored the gamewinner off a pass from Marcelo Ramirez at 102:30.
Bernard Named USCAA Player of the Week
Luke Bernard, a senior forward from Nelson County, VA, has been named by the United States Collegiate Athletics Association as the men' soccer player of the week. Bernard posted three goals in a 4-2 victory over Division II opponent Brevard College. He had nine total shots with five coming on goal. For the season, he has helped the Owls to a 2-1 record with four goals and two assists. Last year, Bernard was an honorable mention USCAA All-American nomination after leading the Owls in total points (23) and goals (10) while also tallying 3 assists. His 23 total points ranked him 11th in the nation.
Men's Soccer Team Defeats Brevard College 4-2
The Warren Wilson College men's soccer team (2-1) defeated rival Brevard College 4-2 behind three goals from senior forward Luke Bernard (pictured left). Fellow senior Kyle Carpenter (Hendersonville, NC/Hendersonville HS) opened up the scoring 2:41 into the game on touches from Alex Babbitt and Max Bresor. Brevard tied the game 1-1 at 33:21 but the Owls quickly responded off the ensuing kick off where Sefton Dennis found Bernard just 13 seconds later. Warren Wilson took a 3-1 lead into the half and then added their fourth goal at 71:43 when Carpenter found the head of Bernard off a corner kick.
Bressor Named USCAA Player of the Week
Max Bessor, a junior midfielder from Richmond VA, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer player of the week. Bressor netted two goals in a 3-0 victory over Division II Chowan University. The Owls' junior sparked the team by scoring their first two goals of the contest. Bressor found the goal on two of his four attempts. Men's soccer team is now 1-0 on the season.
Owls Claim 3-0 Victory over Chowan
The Warren Wilson College men's soccer team (1-0) opened up their 2008 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Division II Chowan University. Junior Max Bressor opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute on an assist from senior Luke Bernard to take a 1-0 lead into the half. The duo then connected again in the 58th minute two take a 2-0 advantage. Bernard then finished the scoring with a goal of his own. The senior forward finished the game with a hand in every goal tallying one goal and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Cavallo tallied 6 saves for the shutout.
