With the spring weather improving here in North Carolina, the Mountain Bike Team has begun weekly training rides. Every Saturday through the end of school the team will sponsor a ride to a local cycling hot spot like Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek, Tsali, Katsuma, and elsewhere. The first of these rides was held in the North Mills River Area of Pisgah National Forest. Seven team members dragged themselves out of bed to catch the bus at 9am Saturday morning ("couldn't it have been ten") and met head coach Art Shuster for the ride, which featured lots of the rocky, rooty single track that makes Pisgah a favorite place to ride for many in the Asheville area. Thanks for the photos Linden.

Out on the trail Art Shuster explains the route to the group before heading into the single track. Lauren and Vanessa represented for the women's team, and both showed that they have been staying in shape and improving their skills over the winter. James Hendershott (far left) is new to Warren Wilson this semester, and is proving himself to be a very strong rider and a great addition to the team.

Even after receiving directions, the fast group off the front missed a turn. Ooops. The wait in the sun wasn't so bad though. Matt and Linden chose to forgo knee and leg warmers (bring on the early season tan, or, mountain bikers don't need those), but Pat "I show up to road rides in shorts when its 40 degrees" Hurley decided to wear tights.

Later, Matt got a flat, prompting some on-trail matienence.

Pat (shown here lining up for a jump) entertained with his technical skills all day.

Linden showed that despite spending most of his time this winter playing ultimate frisbee he still has some seriously good form.

Transfer cycling stud David "I like to ride bikes" Bishop put the hurt on throughout the day, especially when the trail went uphill.
Look for more updates as the spring rides continue.
