Personal Info: Susan Kask is the Department Head and an economics professor at Warren Wilson College. She has taught and conducted research for over 15 years in western North Carolina at Warren Wilson, UNCA, and WCU. Prior to coming to western North Carolina she was the New Zealand Energy Economics Research Fellow doing research at the University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. She received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wyoming and her Bachelors from the University of Colorado. She has published numerous articles and book chapters nationally and internationally in the fields of environmental, ecological, and development economics, as well as, in economic education. Her research focuses primarily on the attitudes and choices made by individuals involving complex environmental services and natural resources such as scenic recreation on the Blue Ridge Parkway and ecosystem goods and services from the Little Tennessee river. Her research involves designing, implementing, and analyzing surveys, as well as facilitating focus groups and stakeholder meetings. She is currently working with a team of researchers developing a decision model for sustainable farm management funded by the USDA National Research Initiative program.
