About Us
Dr. Joseph Daprano '86, is a physician from Cleveland, Ohio. During his years at Warren Wilson he fulfilled his service requirement by working in an inner city church, St. Philip Nyeri, in his hometown of Cleveland. He worked on the Landscape, Garden, Natural Resources, Chemistry and Farm crews while at Warren Wilson. After graduating with a double major in Chemistry and English, Joe spent two years with the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea working as a nutritionist
Joe returned to the U.S. to attend Case Western Reserve School of Medicine with the goal of working with under-served populations. During medical school he became involved with the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland, one of the longest thriving free clinics in the U.S.
Joe completed medical school in 1993 and went to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York for his Pediatrics residency where he met his wife Denise Bothe. After completing their Pediatrics residency program, they went to Kenya, spending six months at Nyeri and Maua mission hospitals. When Joe returned to the United States he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Joe is currently an attending physician in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at MetroHealth Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Coincidentally his office is located close to St. Philip Nyeri, where he worked while doing his Warren Wilson service requirement. Joe and his wife continue to do overseas healthcare on a periodic basis having taught in a Pediatric residency program in Laos and worked at an HIV Family Clinic in the Dominican Republic. Joe believes that at its best, service is a thread through the entirety of life, a thread of motivation, training, hard work, political activity, good fun and with many inestimable benefits.
