Peter Kenny ’82 works as Managing Director of Knight Capital Group, which is a global financial services firm headquartered in Jersey City NJ - with offices globally. Knight Capital Group provides access to the capital markets across multiple asset classes to buy-and-sell side firms and corporations. Knight is a specialized firm with highly developed market-making and trading capabilities. A heavily technologically-driven firm, it makes a market or trades in over 19,000 U.S. securities and is the largest trader of U.S. shares by volume.
Kenny is a frequent commentator on CNBC, Fox Business News, Reuters TV, Phoenix TV (China) and Bloomberg TV and Radio. Since his departure from the trading floor of the NYSE in November 2006, he has appeared on Fox Business Channel, been the subject of a documentaries for the Japan Broadcasting Channel, Dutch TV and has become a source for The Associated Press, Reuters, Fox News, Bloomberg print and others. His "Daily Thoughts" memo goes out to some of the most prominent asset managers on Wall Street and people of influence in media - globally.
Before Knight Equities, Peter had a 25-year career on the trading floor of the NYSE that started as a runner and ended as a NYSE Floor Official and Managing Director for Jefferies Inc. He has served on several boards and prominent committees at the NYSE. He has also served as a primary executive speaker at Creighton University’s Executive-in-Residence program and has been a guest lecturer at Saint Peter’s College, University of Massachusetts and California State- Bakersfield among others.
At Warren Wilson, Peter majored in political science and economics. He was the Vice President of the student body and served on the Admissions Committee. While at Warren Wilson, Peter also worked on the Landscaping Crew 1 year and the Child Care Crew 3 years.
Peter describes his time at Warren Wilson “as an experience of community". “Simply put,” Peter explains, “the requirement to serve, to stay actively engaged in the process of adding to a greater cause or purpose was foundational to his experience. The simple process of getting up and working daily - was important. Clearly, my Landscaping and Child Care experiences at WWC do not correlate with my chosen profession (topically) but in a broader sense, the notion that as a community we worked daily to engage with the fabric of the community - that is something I have found endlessly pertinent in my adult life.”
Peter is an active alumnus, often coming back to Homecoming and has served on Warren Wilson College Alumni Board from 2006 to 2009.
