If you have an entrepreneurial idea and believe that the Foundation Seminars would benefit you, I hope you will consider applying for a scholarship with us. If after reviewing their website you would like to discuss this opportunity further before applying, please feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to review it with you, including in person if you wish.
One key consideration to applying for a scholarship is recognizing the time commitment involved with this opportunity. The time between applying for this scholarship to completing this Asheville-based seminar program could range between four and five months.
If you apply and are awarded a scholarship, then your first step will be to arrange to attend an orientation session that highlights the services and opportunities available with MountainBizWorks. I have attended one of these sessions myself and found it very informative. At the conclusion of the orientation session, you will be asked to complete a registration form for the Foundation Seminars and will then begin to actually select a specific seminar series to attend.
The Foundation Seminars run for eight weeks and are offered during both daytime and evening hours. New seminars start approximately every eight weeks, and scholarship recipients may select among available classes so long as they enroll within six months of being awarded the scholarship. Requests for extensions to this six month policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis. This scholarship opportunity is for persons who have not yet enrolled in the Foundation Seminar series.
Again, if you have any questions about applying, please don’t hesitate to ask.
MountainBizWorks Scholarship Selection Process
Interested persons should obtain a sponsorship application (sample only) by contacting Bates Canon via email at bcanon@warren-wilson.edu. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attach a current resume when submitting their application.
Tell us how you expect to benefit from attending the MountainBizWorks Foundation Seminars. Your response to this statement is crucial to your application. You don't need a spectacular idea or one-of-a-kind skill or talent to apply. However, it will help if you thoughtfully consider how you genuinely expect to benefit from these seminars and to communicate yourself as clearly as possible. We may well share the applications with the donor, Warren Wall, and want to ensure that the applications contain sound, coherent writing. We may also publish your application in the event that your entry is selected. Please take this into account when you submit your application.
