Organic Chemistry II

The common organic mechanisms will be carefully explored. The chemistry of alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, and aromatic substances is discussed. In the laboratory standard organic preparations will be carried out: including the Grignard Reaction, the Fischer esterification, and electrophilic aromatic substitutions. Students will identify and prove the structures of unknowns. Modern instrumentation will be used extensively. A lab fee is required. This course satisfies the Triad Education Natural Science course requirement.
Prerequisites: CHM 225 Organic Chemistry I.
