John Brock holds a joint appointment in Chemistry and Environmental Studies. He believes that "science is the laser beam to light our understanding of this planet and our place within natural systems".

John Brock has a solid background in environmental health research including 10 years at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. His publications include studies of pesticide exposure and breast cancer, PCBs and childhood intelligence, organochlorines and non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

His current research studies include:
-analyses of clothing dyes and pharmaceuticals in local river systems,
-pesticides residues in Florida lakes and alligator health (collaboration with University of Florida)
-examination of human exposure to compounds called phthalates commonly used in many products and plastics.

John greatly enjoys teaching General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Advanced Environmental Analysis and Introduction to Environmental Studies. He is developing a new course tentatively titled "Pollution and Human Health". In all classes, he strives to "keep it real".

John also enjoys organic gardening, cycling, playing Bridge, and traveling with his partner, Brian.
