Leonid photos - Nov. 18, 2001

Very brignt Leonid meteor at 4:08 AM. EST. Average of 4 individual video frames within 1.2 sec. This event left a glowing cloud for at least two minutes. If anyone else in the area has a photograph of this event, I would appreciate its sharing so we can locate the altitude by stereoscopy. DFC

Photography Technique

Astrovid 1000 monochrome video camera with 6 mm FL (f/1.2) lens, . Recorded by Sony DCRTRV10 Digital Video camcorder. The Digital camcorder and associated multimedia computer were on loan from the Apalachian College Association.

More images and videos will soon be posted. Video photos require extensive processing and averaging. In two hours of recording with 25 degree-wide field of view (~2.4% of the sky), 48 events were recorded. The tapes were scanned by Aaron Keegan.
