Preparing a new generation of environmental leaders...

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Today there is an increased demand for knowledgeable and experienced environmental professionals to fill the surge of environmental careers occurring in the overall job market. Over the past seven years, more than 150 Warren Wilson students have taken advantage of internship opportunities provided by the Environmental Leadership Center (ELC). Through these experiences, students emerge inspired and ready to fill the emerging roles in the environmental fields.

The goal of our Internship Program is to prepare students for environmental careers through rigorous and meaningful internship experiences. This goal directly supports the overall mission of the ELC: "to inspire caring citizens, especially our youth, to act as responsible caretakers of the earth."

In his book, Earth in Mind, David Orr proposes a new category for ranking colleges and universities based on whether or not the institution and its graduates move the world in more sustainable directions. The U. S. News and World Report recently ranked Warren Wilson College in a tie for 13th among all colleges and universities nationwide who "encourage students to apply classroom learning to the real world" through internships. The ELC's Internship Program is moving the world in a more sustainable direction by preparing a new generation of inspired environmental leaders.

"I have come back to Warren Wilson with a renewed sense of hope and a burning sense of urgency. My internship at Tremont showed me there is meaningful work waiting for me!"
