* Received a Kenan Fellowship to study tropical botany in Kauai, Hawaii (2002)
* Served as consultant and author for The Nature Conservancy, North Carolina Southern Mountain Region's monitoring manual for rare and endangered plant species (completed in Spring 2003).
* Consultant and collaborator for Haw Creek Elementary School's science enhancement initiative, Project Synergy.
* Organized and taught Worldwide Course on tropical ecology and conservation in Costa Rica, Spring 2003
