Applying for Financial Aid at Warren Wilson College for 2013-2014

CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS

Step 1: After submitting your 2012 taxes to the IRS, complete the 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload all tax information from the IRS into the FAFSA. If you file the FAFSA before your taxes,  log back into the FAFSA after taxes have been submitted and utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Do not make any changes to the retrieved data. PLEASE NOTE: If you file your 2012 taxes on paper, this will cause delays in using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool and in accessing your official IRS Tax Return Transcript, if needed.

It is our understanding that the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA will be available for use mid to late February 2013.

Step 2: Complete a Warren Wilson College Financial Aid Application (WWCFAA) only if you have never applied for aid at WWC or if a previously submitted form needs to be updated (new address or change in family size).

Step 3: Approximately one out of three FAFSAs are selected for "verification." To complete the process of verifying the accuracy of a FAFSA, the Financial Aid Office will request additional documents from you and your parents. If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA to upload your tax information, you will need to log back into the FAFSA and utilize the Data Retrieval Tool to upload your information as soon as possible. If you cannot use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload your tax information, you must request an official 2012 IRS Tax Return Transcript from the IRS and send it to the Financial Aid Office. For information on how to request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS, click here.  Please click here  for information regarding our verification policy.

Step 4: An award of work, loan, scholarship and grants, as applicable,  will be made once the FAFSA and any other requested documents have been received and reviewed by the FAO. This process will begin in mid-May once end-of-the-year grades are available.

Step 5: Once an award is received the student must make a decision to accept or refuse any loan offered. If accepted, one signed original copy of the Award Letter is returned to the Financial Aid Office.  It is encouraged that you complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling each year at www.studentloans.gov. If the student has borrowed with Direct Lending at WWC in the past, we can use the MPN that we have on file.  Otherwise a Master Promissory Note (MPN) must be completed at www.studentloans.gov.

Step 6: Students may contact the Financial Aid Office by calling Ext. 2082. Email address: financialaid@warren-wilson.edu. The Financial Aid Office is located on the first floor of the Ogg Administration Building.
