Step 1: File your 2014-2015 FAFSA after you have completed and submitted your 2013 federal tax return to the IRS. At least three weeks after submitting your 2013 taxes to the IRS, you may use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload all federal tax information from the IRS into the FAFSA.
If you file the FAFSA before your taxes are completed, you must log back into the FAFSA and utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool OR input your and your parent's federal tax information manually. Do not make any changes to any of the retrieved data from the IRS as this may cause a delay in processing. PLEASE NOTE: If you file your 2013 taxes on paper, this will cause delays in using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool and in accessing your official IRS Tax Return Transcript.
It is our understanding that the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA will be available for use mid to late February 2014.
Step 2: The federal processor will determine whether your FAFSA is selcted for a process called verification. Verfication simply means that Warren Wilson College is required to verify certain items from your FAAFSA before we can finalize any of your awards. To complete the process of verifying the accuracy of a FAFSA, the Financial Aid Office will request additional documents from you and your parents. If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA to upload your tax information, you will need to log back into the FAFSA and utilize the Data Retrieval Tool to upload your information as soon as possible. If you cannot use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload your tax information, you must request an official 2013 IRS Tax Return Transcript from the IRS and send it to the Financial Aid Office. To request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS, click here. Please click here for information regarding our verification policy.
Step 3: A final award of scholarships, grants, work and student loans will be made once the FAFSA and any other requested documents have been received and reviewed by the Financial Aid Office. Financial Aid awards for 2014-2015 will begin in mid-May once end-of-the-year grades are available.
Step 4: Once an award is finalized, the student must make a decision to accept or decline any loan offered. If accepted, requested paperwork must be completed. If you borrowed student loans at Warren Wilson College last academic year, you do not need to complete a new MPN and Entrance Counseling. You are only required to submit the Direct Loan Response Form that can be downloaded and printed from our webpage under Forms 2014-2015.
If you are a new student loan borrower for 2014-2015 (meaning you have never borrowed student loans at Warren Wilson College before), you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling online at www.studentloans.gov and the Direct Loan Response Form must be sent to our office. You may download and print this form on our webpage under Forms 2014-2015.
Step 5: Students may contact the Financial Aid Office by calling Ext. 2082. Email address: email@example.com. The Financial Aid Office is located on the first floor of the Ogg Administration Building.
