Who We Are

First Year Programs is here to help first year students transition into college life. We offer programs to connect students with the Warren Wilson community, teach college "survival" skills, and help smooth the transition from one home to another.

Each Tuesday evening we organize an activity for first year students. These range from exploring your own identity and how it relates to campus diversity to learning insider tips on course registration and from a Fireside Chat with the President to Trick-or-Treating for Canned Goods to support Manna Food Bank. During Orientation you will receive a copy of the First Year Programs schedule, but go ahead and mark off that time on your calendar since you won't want to miss these excellent programs designed especially for first year students. We also organize weekly movie nights and study nights in both Vining and Sunderland.

In order to paint a realistic picture of college life, there are some valleys in the midst of all of these mountains. The Office of First Year Programs tries to help with those, though acknowledges we are not miracle workers. But, hey, if we can make a flu outbreak seem like a community building activity, we must be doing something right!

When one of us is in the office, which is often, the door is always open. Stop by anytime!  If you have an idea for a program or activity, talk to us and we will work with you to make it happen.
