These instructions walk you through setting up rules to automatically move messages marked as ****SPAM**** by our email system to a folder of your chosing. You can also choose to move them to the trash if you prefer. A step by step guide is provided for Thunderbird with instructions for the Zimbra web mail client coming soon. Other clients typically have similar procedures but are not officially supported by Computing Services.

Thunderbird Spam Filter

1. Launch Thunderbird and make sure you are signed in.

2. Right Click on Inbox, select "New Folder"

3. In the "Name" box, type "Spam" (or "Junk" or anything you like) and click OK.

4. Click Tools at the top, then click Message Filter

5. Click the New button on the right.

6. Next to "Filter Name" type "Spam Filter"

7. In the blank box next to "Subject" and "Contains" type ****SPAM****

8. In the dropdown menu next to "Move Message to" select "Spam" (or whatever folder you created in step 3).

9. Click the Ok button

10. If you would like to run this filter on your existing email, select the Spam filter you just created and click "Run Now" before closing the Filters window.

11. Close the "Message Filters" window and you're done!
