The flower and design crew at Warren Wilson maintains existing beds and landscapes throughout campus in addition to designing new landscapes. They select, order, and plant primarily species native to the area and work closely with many local nurseries. They maintain and design the formal garden in central campus and plant thousands of flower bulbs every fall.
This year's design crew is Laura Dison, Lora Moon, Hayley Hoover and Leah Lamdin.
Right now, the design crew is working on designing and planting the hill by Jensen. Thirty different plant species have been incorporated into the design, including the following: Oak leaf hydrangea Nodding Wakerobin Trillium Strawberries Blueberries Lenten Rose Hellebore Lavender Lily of the Valley
On the wall of Jensen by the new patio, several pear trees have been espaliered. Espalier is a pruning technique in which trees are trained to grow flat against a wall or fence, maximizing use of limited space.
Work is also underway on the Kittredge side of Bryson Gym.
