Borrowing and Fines Policy
For WWC students, books circulate for 4 weeks and may be renewed for an additional 4 weeks. Videos and DVDs may be checked out for a maximum of three days and may also be renewed one time (with the exception of titles in our rotating video collection, which circulate for two days, with no renewals). Faculty due dates are longer for class use and research. Non WWC-community users (e.g., Appalachian College Association patrons, Friends of the Library board members, alumni borrowers, and community borrowers) may only use audiovisual materials in-house.Renewing is easy. You can renew a book in person at the circulation desk. You can renew a book by phone by calling x 3058 — please have your card number handy. You can also renew online from our library catalog page — ask us how! Please request a renewal before the original due date.
Because it is important that all Warren Wilson College library patrons have full access to information, we need the community to be aware of borrowed materials and to bring them back on time. All students, faculty and staff should return or renew items on or before the due date. If library materials do become overdue, a fee will not be charged for late items, but NO NEW MATERIALS MAY BE CHECKED OUT UNTIL THE PATRON RECORD IS CLEAR. Weekly reminder notices will be sent to all patrons with overdue items. Any books more than 4 weeks overdue will be considered lost and will be charged a lost book fee. Lost book fees are a minimum of $55 per book. Even if a book is returned after being 4 weeks overdue, the patron account will still be charged the lost book fee. If a book is returned within one week of the patron's account being charged the lost fee, the library will credit the patron's account for one-half of the fee. Videos not returned after 3 days overdue will also be charged the lost fee (minimum of $55 per video). Due to the high demand and quick turnaround of Reserve items, we will continue to charge fines for these materials ($.25/hour.)When a lost item is charged to the student's account in the Accounting Office, the student will have two months from the date of this charge to return the item to the library and be eligible for reimbursement of one-half of the cost of the lost item. Just as patrons cannot check out materials from our library if they have overdue items or outstanding fines, patrons will not have the privilege of requesting materials through interlibrary loan or of receiving a cooperative borrower card for the UNCA library. For this system to work, patrons are expected to be responsible for the items they have checked out. To ensure that materials are checked out to the correct person and to make the check-out process more efficient, we will require patrons to have their ID card whenever any materials are needed.
