• Ask NOAH About: Complementary and Alternative Medicine -- NOAH (New York Online Access to Health) is a collaboration between several libraries in New York City. This extensive site lists several alternative thearapies.
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- The CDC, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, is dedicated to promoting "health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability." Of special interest to the consumer are the resources about diseases, conditions and other special topics arranged under "Health Topics A-Z" and "Travelers' Health," with health immunizations and recommendations for travelers worldwide.
• Community Health Status Indicators Project -- Users may access health status reports for all 3,082 US counties.
• The Division of Public Health of the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services -- Provides a site covering a wide range of programs and services, all aimed toward protecting and improving the health of the people who live and work in North Carolina. Includes information such as fish consumption advisories, ozone levels, pfisteria health precautions, links to local health departments, how to get birth certificates, etc.
• Dr. Duke's Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Databases
• Folk Medicine at UCLA -- Data from more than 3,200 published writings of medical practitioners dating to the late 18th century and from a variety of newspapers, journals, and historical sources over the past 200 years.
• Global health.gov -- Sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services, with links to international health-related news items and health-related "hot topics."
• HealthLink Plus -- Selected by Information Services staff of The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, this site facilitates access to selected consumer health information in an effort to develop and enhance public knowledge. Topics such as health insurance and Medicare as well as Complementary & Alternative Medicine are covered. Local Charlotte and Mecklenburg area resources are suggested under "Additional Resources" in each category.
• HealthWeb -- Established by librarians and information professionals from major academic medical institutions in the Midwest. Consumers can search the site either by entering search terms or by selecting one of the many alphabetically listed medical subjects. The "Consumer Health" section leads to many useful resources.
• Health World Online -- Lists conventional and alternative thearapies for common health conditions side by side for easy comparison.
• HerbMed -- A project of the Alternative Medicine Foundation, this database of herbs and their uses allows users to browse by scientific or common name.
• Mayo Clinic -- An excellent consumer source of information. Editors of the site include over 1,200 physicians, scientists, writers and educators at the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit institution with more than 100 years of history in patient care, medical research and education. The site is an extension of the Mayo Clinic commitment to provide health education to patients and the general public.
• MEDLINEplus -- The National Library of Medicine's consumer-oriented site; contains full-text, quality resources on common diseases and conditions arranged under "Health Topics" as well as drug information, directories of health care providers, medical dictionaries and more. Within each health topic MEDLINEplus provides highly simplified access to citations from MEDLINE, the premier database in the field of biomedicine.
• MEDLINEplus: Alternative Medicine -- Contains links to the latest news about CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicines) from the media, articles and statements about CAM from the National Institutes of Health, information on related clinical trials, and recent research.

• National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) -- Part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Its mission is to explore and investigate alternative and complementary therapies.
• National Library of Medicine
• NLM Gateway -- Searches multiple databases of the National Library of Medicine, including MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, etc.
• National Women's Health Information Center (NWHIC) -- A gateway site of health information for consumers, health care professionals, researchers, and educators sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service's Office on Women's Health. It provides access to a variety of women's federal resources in addition to those in the private sector. The stated goal of the site is "to help ensure a healthier future for all American women."
• NC Health Info -- Offers access to health information and local health services, providers, and programs serving residents of North Carolina.
• New England Journal of Medicine Online
• Nutrition.gov -- Links to hundreds of nutrition and health information websites produced by the federal goverment.
• Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine -- One of the first centers at a major medical school developed to study alternative and complementary medicine and train medical professionals in their use.
• State Health Facts Online -- Offers current state-level data on demographics, health, health policy, financing, health coverage, access, and state legislation.
