Library User Categories and Privileges

New patrons in any of the categories below can only be added to the system by the circulation supervisor during regular work hours. Membership is on an annual basis, starting with the date entered into the system.

Current Friends of the Library Board members

For current board members, the annual tax deductible FOL membership fee of $15 for an individual and $25 per couple covers library use privileges as a courtesy. Up to five books may be checked out at a time, with a four-week loan period. One renewal is allowed. A/V materials, Interlibrary Loan services, and remote access to subscription databases are excluded. Records for board members will be put into the system and updated annually in January. Records for outgoing members will be removed.

Community Borrowers

Our books are available via Interlibrary Loan through the public library system. Patrons with proof of current Buncombe County address who wish to borrow books directly from the college library may become Community Borrowers by purchasing an annual user card for $30 (or $50 per couple). Checkout is limited to three books at a time, with one renewal available. A/V materials may be used in the library but cannot be checked out. Interlibrary Loan services and remote access to subscription databases are excluded.

Alumni Borrowers

Local alumni, with proof of current Buncombe County address may get a user card for a $10 annual fee. Privileges are the same as Community users, with a limit of three books per checkout. Interlibrary Loan services, remote access to subscription databases, and the checkout of A/V materials are excluded.

Retired Faculty and Staff

Retirees, as defined in the College Staff Handbook*, and their spouses/domestic partners have continued library benefits. Up to five books may be checked out at a time, with a four-week loan period. One renewal is allowed. Benefits exclude interlibrary loan services and remote access to subscription databases.

*A retiree is a person who retires from the college (1) at age 65 or older, (2) at age 62 and 5 years of service, or (3) at age 50 and 25 years of service.

Note: The library reserves the right to cancel library privileges for any of the above user groups, at any time, for any reason.
