The Locksmith Crew started as a sub-crew under Carpentry about 12 years ago. Lee Rink was one of the pioneers. By 1992, the two student crew was led by guru John McGee, with Ben Robins and Georgi Tuayev backing him up. Norm "Old Top" Propst was the supervisor of the Carpentry/Locksmith crew at this time. He felt it would be a good idea to build the crew up in size, so that it could be a more self-sufficient crew.

In the fall of 1993, Will Chatham came on as a Sophomore, and Brian Texeira soon after. John McGee was soon to be a graduate, and Ben took over the student leadership role. After Ben's graduation, Will became the student supervisor, with Brian, Jason Carter, and Chad Riley helping him out. Other crew members that helped out between this time and 2000 were Galen Holland, Emily Waszak, Henry Weir, Jason Busey, Heather Ward, Angie Fish, and David Balzer.

In March, 1998, the Locksmith Crew's work load became greater as the college grew in size. Old Top decided to try and hire a full-time locksmith to supervise the crew, which would become its own seperate entity. Will Chatham was the person who was hired to run the crew, and it has been that way ever since.

Now, the Locksmith Crew is doing more work orders per year than any other Physical Plant crew, and has just finished re-keying the entire campus to one large masterkey system. The crew recently got new headquarters, and are now on the second floor of the Physical Plant, where they finally have room to breath (a window too!)
