THE SUMMER ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL FROM THE BERRY SITE
The Berry Site, located outside of Morganton, North Carolina, has been identified by experts as the location of the Spanish colonial settlement Fort San Juan. The fort, built in 1567 alongside the Native American village of Joara, represents the earliest European settlement in the interior of what is now the United States. However, a short time after the fort was established, it was burned down in an act of rebellion by the native peoples of the area.
Use the following Podcasts to learn more about the site and follow along with the excavations.
